Born a skinny and awkward boy in Moscow, Aziz Shavershian relocated to Australia with his family at a young age and aspired to become a man of muscle. Instead of simply lifting heavy weights and bulking up in the gym, Shavershian became obsessed with ‘aesthetics’. This was a different basic approach to bodybuilding, with the envisioned end result not an overwhelming bulk of muscle, but an overall sexually appealing look through muscle definition. And Shavershian, also known to the world as “Zyzz” created his dream body in just four years.

I’ve changed my sleeping habits lately also. Before I was going to be around 2am and getting up around 7am, terrible I know. The past week or so, I’ve adjusted that a lot. I’m going to bed around 10pm, and trying to get up around 5am. This is when I plan to get my workout in. Get up at 5, head to the gym, workout, hit the showers, and head on into work. I noticed another article you wrote about not eating before you work out. Do you feel you have plenty of energy for your workout when you do that? I’m one who can’t eat when I wake up, so I will probably be working out on an empty stomach also. It makes me nauseous if I don’t wait a couple hours to eat. At the same time, I don’t want to fizzle out during the workout, or miss out on any gains.

Are you guys serious in calling Zyzz a bodybuilder?!?! Are you joking?!?! The best he was was as a fitness model. Him and that Frank Yang (whom I’ve never heard of at all) I’ve never heard of up until recently so I’m not sure where you guys get the idea that they are bodybuilders?!? Besides being thin and defined doesn’t make you a bodybuilder especially a pro one. I would venture to say that Terry Crews, Sylvester Stallone or Dwayne Johnson had more influence on getting people back into the gym than these guys. If Zyzz was an influence in Australia that’s great but he really was never classified as a bodybuilder. This Russian guy really shouldn’t be on the list either. When the statement was made “the-7-greatest-bodybuilders-of-our-generation” you really should qualify that with actual bodybuilders, not no-name individuals that look impressive but have not won anything. To consider these guys in the same class as a Kai or Phil is truly an insult and obviously the author of the article does not follow the sport.

Lets talk about two additional exercises you can add to build up those spinal extensors once the supermans are too easy. These two exercises help build your extensor strength to the point where you can safely do things like squats and deadlifts. Now you might ask, why don’t you just jump into squats and deadlifts to strengthen your spinal extensors. The answer is because its safer to start with a very gentle and controlled strengthening before you couple it with a complicated compound exercise – it gives you a larger margin for error without injury. My favorite exercises for strengthening the spinal extensors are the  Scooby Dead Lift  and  barbell rows for lats . Only when you get strong at bent over rows and SLDL would I suggest that you move on to deadlifts and squats.
